Key features of national education policy, 2020

Introduction of a four stage education program and alteration in higher studies.

Our education system works on the layout provided by authority. These layouts are the policies that determine the efficiency of coming youngsters. It focuses on the study pattern that is to be followed and influenced. Education policy is foremost for the good future.

Keeping in view the dominancy of good policy, government of India has released the national education policy, 2020. Here are its highlights:

A four stage program

The government has replaced the 10+2 formula with 5+3+3+4. This means that the former education system will change to four stages. Length of formal education will remain same only a creative approach has been emphasized.

Stage 1: this will be a period devoted to play schools and development of language. The children within the age group of 3-6 will made to visit anganwadi and the above will be sent to kindergarten. This stage is the foundational stage which shall focus only on the strengthening of base.

Stage 2: this is the discovering stage in which interactive skills of a child will be focused. This stage will known as preparatory stage in which children of age 8-11 years will fall. It will also centre numeracy skills. Some new subjects will be offered along with the adaption of any three languages which chapters will be taught.

Stage 3: it will focus on intellectual thinking and determines to clear the concept of science, social science, mathematics and humanities. The amended policy has contracted the period of learning the basics of the above subjects giving much time to secondary education. The children who enter this stage must fall in the age group of 11-14 years.

Stage 4: It will give students an opportunity to choose the subjects according to their interest, widening the critical thinking. This stage shall be for the time span of 4 years. This includes students who will enter class 9th to 12th respectively. This will help in building up of strong foundation for the future career.

Higher education

A change has also been generated in the higher education system where we will find breaking down of a four year degree into 4 stages. If a student drops out of the college after one year he will be provided with a certificate of diploma and advanced diploma certificate after 2 years. On ending upon 3 and 4 year, he will be awarded with bachelor’s degree.
Government has been thinking to covert various 3 year degree programs to four year as it will allow the learner to go through more advanced study.

The policy has aimed to convert masters program to one year for four year bachelor degree holders and two years for 3 year degree holder with one year entirely devoted to research.

After masters, a student will be permitted to opt for PhD studies cutting down the need of M. Phil program.

This is the third time that changes have been made in the education system after independence.
everyone knows that knowledge is the key to success. It plays supreme role in an individual’s life and without it exploration is impossible. Education is the means to it and it targets success. It enables the person to dream high and achieve those dreams with full determination. It fosters confidence and polishes natural talent. consequently, education is the most important aspect.
