What is dehydration?

It is the states where fluid volume of body decreases due to excessive sweating, urine output or decreased intake of water which can be occur in anyone in this hot weather and one should be aware or its effects on body functions. It can be mild, moderate or severe. Dehydration is very dangerous and need hospitalization of patients. Patients become dizzy can loose consciousness, skin becomes very dry, tears are not formed, eyes look like they sunken inside orbit, colour of urine become very dark yellow.

What are common symptoms?

  • Dry mouth
  • Urine output is decreased
  • Thirst increases
  • Urine become dark yellow colour
  • Headache

If not treated by adequate fluids intake It can progress to severe form which is dangerous condition.

Dehydration commonly occurs in:

  • Suffering from diarrhea, vomiting
  • Who work out a lot
  • Young and old are more susceptible
  • People working in heat

How to treat?

  • Person should drink 2 to 3 litres of water daily.
  • Try taking ORS from chemist shop
  • If ORS is unavailable make at home by mixing 1/2 spoons of salt, 6 spoons of sugar on 1 litre of water which was heated before and cooled down.
  • Have diarrhea and vomiting consult a doctor and take medications prescribed to you.
  • Drinking water at regular intervals helps a lot.

Dehydration can be easily treated and prevented. We all enjoy drinking different juices and homemade cocktails drink more lemon juice. We all enjoy roohafza drink after a session of working or any activity. Drinking jaljeera will also replenish fluids.
