Ban of 89 Apps by Indian Army

A step to strengthen national security

Security remains the first duty of an individual in every sort of work and national security is of utmost importance in the development of nation. It is an integral part of contemporary domestic and foreign policy concern. National security in itself is a moral right that helps nation in thriving. It is much more than dealing with military threats along with the protection of nation through guarding of state secrets. National security keeps us away from physical, economical and diplomatic harm. Hence, this needs a great attention.
Therefore, few steps were taken in the support of national security by army directorate urging soldiers to delete 89 mobile applications from foreign sources. These apps are of great risk and can amount to various harms. The list not only concerned with Chinese apps but also with US based platforms. This decision has been apparently taken by the directorate guarding the sensitive information that must not be let opened for foreign sources. There have been several cases of trapping the personnel for infringement of secrecy. This order covered 1.3 million Indian army personnel in it.
The range of apps include several social networking apps that has messaging, content sharing, web browsing, video hosting, dating and e-commercial features.

List of apps

Here is the categorized list of different apps that has been banned by the authority.

Social networking

The roll includes facebook, instagram, ello and snapchat US based apps along with a single Chinese app named baidu.

E-commerce

The apps of commercial nature that promotes business online are called e-commerce apps. The list has aliexpress, club factory, shein, romwe, modility, china brands, gearbest, banggod, minInTheBox, TinyDeal, Dhhgate, LightInTheBox, DX, EricDress, Zaful, Tbdress and Rosegal.

Live streaming apps

Zoom, liveMe, BigoLive, Vigo video, Vmate, Uplive and fast films are in line. One can use jioMeet an alternative to them.

Messaging apps

This list also comprises of not only Chinese but apps from other countries. It includes We chat, Helo, Share chat, Viber, IMO, Hike, QQ, Kik, Qzone, To Tok, Snow, ooVoo, Line and Nimbuzz.

Micro blogging apps

This list includes apps that are frequently used by people for forwarding their thoughts to public. The list has Tumblr, FriensFeed, Private blogs, Yelp and Reddit.

Other apps

Other apps include the apps for purposes such as video hosting, web browsing, gaming, dating, news reading, music etc.
Hungama, songs.pk, Heal of Y, POPXO, Vokal, Pratilipi, 360 security, TikTok, Likee, Samosa, Kwali, Zender, Zapya, ShareIt, CamScanner, BeautyPlus, TrueCaller, DailyHunt, UC browser, US browser Mini News Dogs, TrulyMadly, coffee Meets Bagel, Tantan, Woo, Azar, Happn, OkCupid, Aisle and Hinge.

It is necessary for all the personals to delete these apps along with permanent deletion of accounts for the purpose of national security. Disability of account is not an option, one has to accept the order issued by the directorate and shall proceed in the same direction. If an account of any soldier is seen on above mentioned online platforms after the date of 15 July, necessary steps will be taken.
