Overview

Bajaj has proved itself good on the terms of promise keeping and finally declares that they have a bag full of Pulsars with them. The company launched the all-new Adventure Sport series on 14th April, 2015 at a launch event in New Delhi. One of them is the Pulsar AS150, which is priced at INR 79,000 (ex-showroom New Delhi). Being the younger member of the adventure sport family, it has everything carried from its senior, the AS200. Both the bikes have been built on the same body, with exactly the same dimensions in terms of length, width and height. The design seems to be closely related to the older 220F as both share the mark of being semi-faired, but the features in the Adventure series take them to a new height.

Design & Style

The new Pulsar AS150 was seen in its testing mode from quiet a long time. Sharing the same design of AS200, the smaller Pulsar seems to be lean due to its skinny tyres. The same front wind shield, the semi-faired body design and the same long rear mudguard, all shows how closely both the Pulsars are related. Even the younger Pulsar has been equipped with the projector lamp, making it a value for money offering in its segment. When seen in the same shade, both the Pulsars look twins, one loaded and one shredded. For those who think the fairing on a motorcycle is a waste and being from the street fighter section means too much show off, the Pulsar AS series surely meet up to the requirements, with its much advanced approach than most of the segment rivals.

Instrument Console

The instrument console is same as that on all the new series of Pulsars being launched. The semi digital unit looks perfect on the Pulsar 150AS as it is the best looking console by Bajaj till date. The perfect looking tachometer in the center houses the digital fuel indicator as well whereas the right section contains a fully digital speedometer and odometer. Left section includes all the lights showing neutral, high beam and turn indicators. Bajaj has been smart on this move as a single console can now be used on all the upcoming Pulsar models, keeping the cost of R&D as low as possible.

Dimensions & Weight

The length of Pulsar AS150 is 2070mm, height stands at 1205mm and width is 804mm. The company has not released the seat height value but is expected to be somewhere around 805mm. The wheelbase and fuel tank capacity of the motorcycle is 1363mm and 12 litres respectively. The kerb/wet weight of the bike is 143kg, which is 10kg less in comparison to the AS200. The specifications are perfect when seen from a rider’s point of view, leading to an easy and straight riding position further facilitating the real definition of touring and adventure sport. Carefully designed and scientifically calculated, the whole structure forms a durable and reliable machine for daily use.

Engine & Gearbox

The engine of Pulsar 150 AS is a tuned version of the current 150 cc, this one will also feature on the Pulsar 150NS. It produces 16.8 BHP @ 9500 rpm & 13 NM @ 7000 rpm. The AS150 has a 5-speed manual gearbox. The performance has significantly increased from the last version of 150 cc engine and the values are matching those of the current 180 DTS-i. Power of 180 cc in a 150 cc will definitely attract more number of fans for the new AS150.

Brakes & Suspension

Major difference seen is the smaller tires and non-availability of rear disc brake. Braking is restricted to a single disc brake measuring 240 mm for the front with a130 mm drum braking system at the rear. Front is using 37 mm telescopic forks with anti-friction bush and the rear has a mono shock absorber with piggy back canister.

Tyres

Smaller tires measuring 80/100-R17 and 100/90-R17 are used for the front and rear respectively. The quality of the tyres is excellent and cutting sharp edges with full confidence has been seen in the ride reviews.

Shades

The new Pulsar AS150 comes in Red, Black and Blue shade (without body graphics).

Price

The pricing has been kept very reasonable at INR 79,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) . The new Pulsar AS150 is the most affordable touring motorcycle in India.
