Maruti Suzuki ramps up Brezza production

NEW DELHI: Maruti SuzukiBSE 0.71 % India, the country’s largest car maker, is ramping up production of its compact SUV Brezza and will roll out 10,000 units a month from July to cater to strong demand for the vehicle.

This is the second time the company has revised sales estimates for the model launched in March. Maruti Suzuki had previously revised its production plan to 100,000 units a year from 80,000 units after the model got a favourable reception at the Auto Expo in February, suppliers to Maruti Suzuki said.

“We have been asked to prepare for the increase in production of the Brezza July onwards,” a vendor with MSIL said. Maruti sold 20,588 units of the Brezza between April and May and has 52,000 pending orders for the vehicle.

Maruti, which is running at 100% capacity, said it is taking steps to meet increased demand for vehicles such as Brezza and Baleno.

We are making all possible efforts to de-bottleneck the lines and enhance production. Our production teams are doing internal adjustments to meet the demand of models in high demand,” a company spokesperson said in response to a query.

MSIL declined to share model-specific production plans, saying they are flexible and aligned with market demand. Data show that sales volumes of Maruti’s Alto, Swift and Dzire models have reduced somewhat in the three months to May.
