Dominating the cockpit

When children of her age were pursuing conventional professions like medicine and engineering, Anny Divya dreamt of dominating the cockpit.

Living her dreams

Her family and friends panned the idea but Divya, with support from her parents, fulfilled her dream at the age of 19. She is now the world’s youngest woman commander to captain a Boeing 777 airplane.

Struggle she endured

Born in Pathankot to an armyman, Divya faced a tough time after she moved to Vijaywada. The small-town factor was overwhelming and Divya had difficulty adjusting and speaking English. She was often mocked by her peers for her poor language skills.

Flying high

After finishing her school, at the age of 17, Divya enrolled herself into the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi, the flying school in Uttar Pradesh.

Flight of Anny

At 19, Anny completed her training and landed a job with Air India. Then she flew a Boeing 737 when she was sent to Spain for training.

Making India proud

After two years, Divya went to London for another training and flew a Boeing 777. That was the turning point for the young commander. She travelled the world and proved her critics wrong. The young pilot says she is elated and gives all the credit to her parents.

Apart from flying

Divya also has a post graduation degree in law apart from flying. The captain also enjoys writing poetry. She has written above 30 poems in Urdu.
