Three civilians were killed and nine injured on Friday in heavy and indiscriminate shelling by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir, police said. However, TV channels are reporting that the number of injured may rise.

Subhash Chander, 45, and Bimla Devi, 42, both residents of Sai Khurd village, and Pawan Kumar, 55, who lived in Abdullian village, were killed. The firing had started at about 10 pm on Thursday night and ended in the early hours of Friday morning at around 3:30 am. This latest violation of ceasefire by Pakistan comes days before the meeting between the Director Generals of Pakistan Rangers and Border Security Force is set to take place in New Delhi on 6 September.

On 25 August, an Indian soldier was killed in unprovoked firing in the Nowgam sector. This was said to have been the first major violation after the cancellation of the NSA-level talks.

On Independence day, a ceasefire violation by Pakistan had killed three persons and injured five persons in Poonch.

According to the report, so far in 2015 there have been more than 245 violations this year and 51 ceasefire violations in August.
