Traffic nightmare on Pune-Mumbai Expressway after oil tanker topples over

Pune-Mumbai Expressway

Pune-Mumbai Expressway witnessed a massive traffic jam today after an oil tanker toppled blocking the busy road route between the two cities.

Maharashtra Rural Development Minister Pankaja Munde tweeted a photo of the expressway advising people to avoid the route. “Plz avoid Pune Mumbai travel on Expressway. Huge traffic jam,” Munde tweeted.

An oil tanker toppled over on Mumbai-Pune expressway near Khandala exit. The resultant oil spill caused a huge traffic jam.

Highway police have blocked the traffic from both sides. The traffic has been diverted to the old highway causing bumper to bumper traffic on the alternate route too.

The jam has ruined weekend plans of many. The accident comes as an addition to the closing of one of the four lanes of the expressway from February 22 to March 11 for maintenance purposes.
