Vijayakanth

DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Tuesday denied stalemate in alliance talks with Vijayakanth’s DMDK. Addressing a press meeting at the DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam here, Karunanidhi said he was confident of a poll tie-up with the DMDK alliance for the election in Tamil Nadu.

In response to a question on status of talks with Vijayakanth’s DMDK, the DMK patriarch said: “Pazham kanindukondu irukkiradhu. Paalil eppozhudhu vizhum endru mudivaagavillai.” (The fruit is ripening. When it will fall into the milk is yet to be decided.)

On Monday evening, the party completed its personal interviews with prospective candidates for the upcoming polls. On Tuesday morning, the DMK chief and party treasurer, M K Stalin held a press briefing to announce that the interview process had concluded.

Karunanidhi said the party had completed interviews with 4,433 ticket aspirants – 4,362 candidates for 234 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and 71 candidates for 30 constituencies in Puducherry and Karaikal.

The party, he said, received more than Rs 12.37 crore as application fee from aspiring candidates.

Further, the party’s poll manifesto would be out in two or three days, Karunanidhi said.
