Overview
Suzuki has a brand reputation that matches none other. Top selling 4 wheeler manufacturer keeps an eye on the 2 wheeler segment and presented a naked street bike in late 2014 called Gixxer. The naked one got some clothes over it this time. Yes, it’s the fully faired Suzuki Gixxer SF in the battleground.
Suzuki Gixxer SF was launched in India on 7th April, 2015 with an aggressive price tag of INR 83,439 for the standard model and INR 84,939 for the special edition variant. Being an ultra-affordable offering, the Gixxer SF carries the spirit of the Moto GP racing. Beware all, a tough competition has arrived. The new definition of value for money racing is here with us.
Design & Style
Gixxer SF shares its headlight design with the elders of Suzuki family, especially the Hayabusa’s triangular design. An impressive design below 1 lakh is a positive point for the newcomer as the price fully justifies its beauty. It’s a tough enemy for every 150 cc rival. Whether it’s Yamaha R15 or the Pulsar RS200, Suzuki has targeted every faired bike of each category. The resemblance of the SF to the track racers will push it to a new height. Other rivals of this bike are Hero Karizma ZMR and Honda CBR150R. Though none of these are direct rivals of Gixxer SF but still we can count all of them as a competition as these are fully-faired bikes and are priced below 1.25 lakhs (ex-showroom price).
Instrument Console
Like its naked sibling, the Gixxer SF is also equipped with an all-digital instrument console which consists of a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meter and a digital fuel gauge. The bike is also equipped with a rpm display and a gear indicator, apart from these features, the instrument panel houses other tell-tales like turn signal lights, high beam indicator and neutral light.
Engine & Performance
The newly dressed Gixxer SF and naked Gixxer 155 share the same muscle under the shirt. The 154.9 cc single cylinder air cooled mill churns out 14.6 Bhp @ 8000 rpm with a torque value of 14 Nm @ 6000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. The performance stats are much better than its segment rivals and chasing the higher one’s is what the motorcycle is made for.
Brakes & Suspension
The Gixxer SF comes with a 266 mm disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the back in its production version. No variation is expected on any variant as the mechanicals are said to be kept standard. Telescopic suspension at the front works to its best whereas the rear is managed by swing arm mono suspension.
Comfort while Riding
The wide tyre setup of 100/80-R17 at the front and much wider 140/60-R17 at the rear provides a tension free ride all the time. Enough power is generated for a thrilling experience, by being safe all the time. The fairing is aerodynamically adjusted in such a manner that the drag value is kept minimum possible, side by side providing a totally race bike experience.
Mileage
The new Gixxer SF with the same engine and some increased fairing weight is expected to return around 42-48 kmpl. The best mileage figures in the segment would make it a highly affordable plus easy to maintain and drive.
Dimensions & Kerb Weight
The Length of Gixxer SF is 2050mm, width is 785 mm, height is 1085mm, seat height is 780mm, ground clearance is 160mm and wheelbase is 1330mm. The kerb weight of the bike is 139 kg (this means that the weight of SF version just 4kg more in comparison to the weight of Gixxer) and the fuel tank capacity is 12 litres. This light-weight fairing would be a major positive factor for the Gixxer SF as power ratios are maintained very well in this model also.
Shades Available
Gixxer SF is available in 3 shades – Pearl Mirage White, Metallic Triton Blue and Glass Sparkle Black. A special edition having the Moto GP touch has also been introduced (based on the Metallic Triton Blue shade).
Ex-showroom Price
Suzuki has priced the Gixxer SF very aggressively, which in-turn is going to give a tough competition to the segment rivals. The base model of Gixxer SF is priced at INR 83,439 and the special MotoGP edition is priced at INR 84,939. These prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
Verdict
Everybody knows that Gixxer SF is a stunning masterpiece; the only decision maker at the end was its price and the company has priced the bike perfectly. Though the bike has no direct competition because it is the only fully-faired bike in this price range in India but there are some high-priced bikes which we can count as the rivals of Gixxer SF. These are Yamaha YZF-R15, Honda CBR150R, Hero Karizma ZMR and the most recent one is Bajaj Pulsar RS200.
