Snooty Enters Guinness World Records 2017 Edition

The Guinness Book of World Records announces that Snooty, the world’s oldest manatee, will once again be in their 2017 Edition.

Born in 1948, Snooty is currently 68 years old and lives at the South Florida Museum in Bradenton, Florida, where he was first brought in 1949 when he was just 11-months-old.

As an icon of the Manatee County community, Snooty known for his age, as well as for his contribution to the research of gulf coast manatees.

In 1985 a hydrophone placed in Snooty’s tank picked up high pitched squeaks, showing researchers that manatees are smarter than they originally believed. This discovery helped mankind to better understand the thousands of manatees living on Florida’s gulf coast.

A caretaker of Snooty, at the South Florida Museum once said, “one of the fabulous things he’s (Snooty’s) done for us is been an ambassador for endangered species and in particular Manatees.”
