Snapdeal says Aamir’s comments in personal capacity

E-commerce major Snapdeal on Wednesday said it was “neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by Aamir Khan in his personal capacity”. The company was forced to make the statement after it started drawing lot of flak online after Khan’s comments on intolerance in India at the RNG Awards in New Delhi resulted in a controversy.

While Khan’s statement attracted criticism as well as support, some people took to Twitter starting a campaign called #AppWapsi asking others to not buy anything from Snapdeal, which he endorses, and uninstall the app. Many of them even started giving the Snapdeal app on Google Play Store a one-star rating.

“#APPwapsi Amir khan plzz leave our country as soon as possible. No Deal With Snapdeal just uninstalled Snapdeal app .Now I am going to boycott Snapdeal till they Remove Amir khan as Brand Ambassador. I will suggest my friends to do same. and I shift all my deals from Snapdeal to flipkart. #GobackAmir,” wrote a user on the application’s review page.

Though, the overall rating hasn’t come down and stands at a decent 4.1, it remains to be seen when and if this #AppWapsi has an impact on Snapdeal’s overall ratings.
