Renault Kwid is the French automaker’s first product based on the all new CMF-A platform, developed jointly by Nissan and Renault. The same platform will also underpin one of Datsun’s upcoming small cars. The Kwid derives its power from a newly developed 800cc petrol unit, which too has developed by Nissan and Renault together. Upon its launch, the Kwid will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Hyundai Eon, etc. The upcoming small car will come at a starting price of Rs. 3 lakh.
Price: 3.00 Lakhs – 4.50 Lakhs
Engine and Transmission
Powering the vehicle will be an all new 799cc, 3-cylinder petrol unit that has been developed by Renault-Nissan alliance. This engine, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, is likely to churn out 54bhp and 72Nm of peak torque. At a later stage, the company might also introduce an automated manual transmission (AMT).
Features
The vehicle is claimed to be the most feature-rich vehicle in its league with first-in-class features such as digital instrument cluster and infotainment system with a seven-inch display. Other key features are piano black centre console with a chrome-surround, plastic cladding on sides, etc. That said, the vehicle misses out on even very basis safety features. In fact, only top-end variant of the Kwid will get a driver airbag, and that too as an option.
Dimensions
Measuring 3680mm in length and 1580mm in width, the Kwid will be the most spacious vehicle in its league. It will also have the segment-leading ground clearance of 180mm, which is, in fact, more than several crossovers/SUVs in India.
