Monika of Chakminhasa village near Nangal Bhoor, who had come to her parents’ house, and husband Nirmal Singh were on their way back home at Kanwa on the Pathankot-Jalandhar highway on a scooter when the two youths on a motorcycle snatched her chain.

Davinder said the youths left their motorcycle on the bridge and jumped around 100 feet into the river, and he too followed them. They fell on the muddy banks where one of the snatchers turned unconscious and he, along with the other snatcher, suffered injuries.
