New Land Rover Discovery shown in first official picture

Following numerous spy shots of prototypes testing across the globe, we now have our first sight of the all-new Land Rover Discovery. The full-sized, seven-seater SUV has appeared online in this first official picture which shows an evolutionary design based on the current Land Rover family look.

The current-gen Discovery has been on sale for a long time and will be replaced with the fifth-generation model that you see here. The latter is being built using Land Rover’s aluminium platform that underpins the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport.

It goes without saying that the lightweight new platform will allow for significant weight savings over the existing Discovery which is one of the heaviest vehicles in the market. The new Discovery, in fact, will get a range of four and six-cylinder engine options, depending on the market. The SUV will also have a hybrid option as well as Land Rover’s new Ingenium engine range.

The new Discovery will be officially introduced on September 28, ahead of the Paris Motor Show. It will go on sale early next year and compete with the likes of BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q7.
