‘My brothers, maintain peace’: Mika appeals to people in Punjab after desecration of holy text

maintain peace Mika appeals

For the last one week, communal tension has been simmering in Punjab on the issue of desecration of a ‘bir’ of Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of the Sikhs, at Bargari village in Faridkot district. As many as 110 pages of the book were found torn off. The ‘bir’ was stolen from the Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village in June.

The state has been embroiled in protests and paramilitary forces were deployed in four districts of Punjab. Violence soon erupted and arrests have been made since.

In these troubled times, Punjab’s very own Mika has come out with a message of peace in a video posted to his Facebook account.

Mika, in his post, has called for peace in Punjab and has demanded strict action for those responsible for the desecration.

The singer also urged the authorities to speed up proceedings and bring those responsible to justice.

Mika spoke of troubles that already exist in Punjab. He talked of struggles of farmers in his state and also addressed the prevalent issue of drug addiction. Calling the incident shameful, he appealed his “brothers” to keep peace.

Mika’s video, sincere and heartfelt, hopefully sends across the message to the people of Punjab.
