Maruti Suzuki Ignis India Launch Scheduled For Q1 2017

Maruti Suzuki Ignis has been making a lot of news since it was unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Maruti Suzuki was previously expected to launch its upcoming sub-4 compact crossover in India during the festive season 2016. However, it seems the production backlogs of the Vitara Brezza and Baleno prompted the carmaker to push the launch to next year. The Maruti Ignis is now reportedly awaiting a launch sometime between January – March 2017.

The Suzuki Ignis, which is already available for sale in Japan, made its European debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, and is likely to go on sale there too in 2017. With that said, it must be noted the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is likely to be slightly different in terms of styling and a bit short on features as compared to the global-spec Suzuki Ignis.

On to the specifics: the Ignis on offer in international markets measures 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width, 1,595mm in height, sports a wheelbase of 2,438mm and ground clearance of 180mm. Underpinned by the same platform as the Baleno, the Ignis crossover gets a smartly-designed grille, projector head-lamps, LED daytime running lamps, flared wheel arches and a bold shoulder line combined with a distinctive rear that comprises a large windshield, well-sculpted hatch door and plastic cladding on the bumper.

Inside, the Ignis will receive a dual-tone dashboard, body-colour highlights on dashboard and door panels, heated front seats, automatic climate control, SmartPlay infotainment system, etc.. For safety, it is expected to get provisions such as dual front, side and curtain airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, and lane departure warning.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis will borrow its engine options from the Maruti Baleno, namely the 73.9bhp 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine and the 84bhp 1.2-litre K-Series petrol motor. Additionally, word in the market is that the company might also offer its SHVS mild hybrid technology on the carline. The car’s transmission options will include a five-speed manual and an AMT.
