XUV Aero

Mahindra & Mahindra that teased the sketch image of the XUV Aero concept a few days back, unveiled this today at the ongoing Auto Expo 2016. The Mahindra XUV Aero concept is a coupe-styled SUV that will become basis for the company’s future flagship model. With inputs from Mahindra-owned car design company – Pininfarina – the car has been designed entirely by Mahindra’s Indian design team, says the company.

If it goes into production, Mahindra XUV Aero concept will be the first mass market coupe design-inspired SUV in the country. Other coupe-like SUVs available in the Indian market are from luxury carmakers like BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

With a slopping roofline, horizontally placed tail-lamps, large bumpers, several creases and prominent character lines on sides, the Mahindra XUV Aero concept looks pretty aggressive. Upon its launch, the XUV Aero concept-based SUV will become the company’s top-of-the-line vehicle.

Powering the Mahindra XUV Aero concept is a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, which is the same powertrain that does duty on the existing Mahindra XUV500 model. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 210bhp mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The XUV Aero SUV concept is 4600mm long, 1680mm hight and 1890mm wide, and features a wheelbase of 2700mm. The new Mahindra SUV concept gets 265/45 20-inch alloy wheels. The coupe-styled XUV Aero offers four driving modes – Race, Off-road, Street and Sport.

The Mahindra XUV Aero concept also offers the latest communication and connectivity features. The SUV comes equipped with an embedded telecommunication module and a high-resolution touchscreen to control the infotainment system settings. The SUV also gets mult-zone climate control and on-board vehicle system functions.l

Besides the XUV Aero concept, the home-grown automaker is also displaying customized versions of Mahindra TUV300 & KUV100, e2O with wireless technology and Verito electric.

Also on display is the India-bound Tivoli SUV that is developed by Mahindra-owned Korean SUV maker SsangYong. Upon its launch, the Mahindra-SsangYong Tivoli will rival Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Terrano and other vehicles in the growing compact SUV segment.
