Lalita breaks national record in steeplechase

Lalita Babar of India broke the national record in the 3000m steeplechase event of the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing on Monday, qualifying for the final with the eighth best timing in the heats.

Babar finished fourth in her heat with a timing of 9:27.86 mins which was topped by favourite Habiba Ghribi of Tunisia who clocked 9:24.38 mins – fastest in the heats.

The final is slated for the evening on Monday 6:45 pm (IST).

On Sunday, shot putter Inderjeet Singh finished last in the final round to end his maiden World Athletics Championships appearance in disappointment while Baljinder Singh took the 12th spot in the 20km race walk event on the second day of competitions.
