Kanchi acharya was arrested for political reasons: Amit Shah

Hours after former NDA ally in Tamil Nadu, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, decided to join hands with the People Welfare Front, BJP’s national president Amit Shah chose to chastise the AIADMK at a function organised to celebrate the eightieth birthday of Kanchi acharya Jayendra Saraswati here on Wednesday.

Crediting the acharya for “ensuring peace between two communities in Gujarat,” Mr. Shah said that Kanchi Math has done tremendous work for Hindus .

“The work done by the math has made people understand the value of Sanatan Dharma. Swamy travelled throughout Gujarat on foot. Despite there being no truth, the swamy was arrested and troubled for political reasons. When I was a Minister in Gujarat, I protested against it,” Mr. Shah said.

Speaking on the occasion, the acharya said that there was a need to create ‘ghoshalas’ in every temple and ensure that cows are protected.
