IFTAR And SUHOOR

Party

He who gives iftar to another fasting person shall earn reward equivalent to a fasting man without distracting from the reward of the latter.

The Iftar is the meal served at the end of the day during Ramadan; to break the day’s fast. Literally, it means “breakfast.” Iftar is served at sunset during each day of Ramadan, as Muslims break the daily fast. The other meal during Ramadan, which is taken in the morning (pre-dawn), is called suhoor.

This fast is ideally broken by eating dates which are sources of instant energy. While planning the meals for Iftar, it is important to have a perfect balance in the proportion of carbohydrates and proteins.

People often opt to have cutlets, tikkis and other fried items for Iftari which are tasty as well as filling. While this is an easy way to eat a lot of food, it is important to remember to have enough food in Iftari so that you can eat again during dinner time. It is easy to have three full means in the month of Ramadan as well if the food consumed in Iftar is planned well. Eating more of fruits and light but instantly filling snacks for Iftari will help in consuming your dinner as well, giving you enough energy for the day.

Time of iftar is the beginning of Maghreb (just after the sunset). Maghreb time duration is very small. Hence, the iftar need to be followed by the prayer immediately, before the Maghreb ends.

Iftar Dua

Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu [wa ‘alayka tawakkaltu]wa ‘ala rizq-ika aftarth

“Oh Allah, I fasted for You and I believe in You and I break my fast with Your sustenance.”

Muslims are asked to feed a person who is fasting. It is generally meant in a way so as to feed a person who fasted for Allah the whole day. So Muslims compete with one another to feed others.

During Ramadan people organize parties where other people are invited to do iftar with them. These are called iftar parties.
