Dhumal Says Not in Race For CM Post Party Looking For Options

With BJP’s CM candidate Prem Kumar Dhumal losing his election from Sujanpur constituency, party is reportedly looking for options after it has been voted to power in Himachal Pradesh with a thumping majority.

Dhumal, meanwhile has ruled out that he is in the race to become CM despite some MLAs offering to vacate their seat for him to seek re-election.

While reacting to his loss Mr Dhumal said,”There may be something lacking in me that’s why people have voted me out.” Mr Dhumal had won from Hamirpur in 2012.

But his constituency was changed this time from Hamirpur to Sujanpur by the party. But the two time Chief Minister refuses to accept that party offered him a tough seat. “When party gave me the seat then it was my responsibility to win it for the party, I went to my constituency as well as where ever it was necessary for me to campaign.

Reacting to loss of some of his close aides Mr Dhumal said,”I don’t think there was any factionalism which has led to defeat for some of our senior candidates, it’s wrong to portray that there was some conspiracy to defeat leaders close to me.”

Following his stunning loss, Mr Dhumal has ruled out that he is in the race to become CM. “I never staked claim to be the Chief Minister candidate, it was the party high command which declared my name, so no question of asking party leadership to consider my name for the top job,” he said.

“Now it’s for the organisation to find out what went wrong and decide the road ahead for me,” Mr Dhumal added.
