Parliament is expected to be stalled on Friday as well as the Congress has refused to back down on its stand on ‘vendetta politics’. The party will be meeting ahead of today’s Parliament session to decide on its strategy to corner the government on a host of issues.

Sources said that Congress has decided to harden its stand against the Naredra Modi government. It is expected to stall Rajya Sabha over the National Herald case and BJP MP Virendra Singh’s controversial statement against the Gandhi family in the Lower House.

On Thursday, Congress and Trinamool Congress MPs staged a walkout in Lok Sabha over the issue.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be holding a meeting with his senior ministers in the morning as hope for the passing the crucial GST Bill in the Winter Session is fast fading.

Proceedings in Rajya Sabha were washed out on Thursday as Congress members continued to create uproar over the Herald case, triggering protests from the ruling side which contended that the House was being held “hostage”.

The Upper House was repeatedly adjourned and the final adjournment for the day came minutes after 3 pm because of relentless shouting of slogans against the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Congress members who were in the Well all the time.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi expressed strong object to the opposition’s behaviour. “Ministers are sitting in the House to answer questions of members. If some members are not seeking to ask questions, why are other members being prevented from doing so? Some people cannot hold the House to ransom. Unfortunately, some people are taking this House hostage. The House needs your protection,” he told Chairman Hamid Ansari during Question Hour.

In the Lok Sabha, the Congress latched on to certain “objectionable” remarks by a BJP member against party Vice President Rahul Gandhi, creating uproar to demand his apology even as Speaker Sumitra Mahajan cautioned the MP, saying his comments were “wrong”.

Singh, member from Bhadoi in Uttar Pradesh, had made the remarks in the House on Wednesday while participating in a discussion on drought situation.
