Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

It has been teasing fans with its recent curtain raising promotional campaign of late as the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (the YBA or XA Alpha) has finally broken cover on the first day of the 2016 Auto Expo.

Maruti Suzuki has been one of the most popular car brands in India over the past couple of decades and when a completely new offering from the manufacturer surfaces, it is bound to create excitement. So has been the case with the all new Vitara Brezza, a production version of which was unveiled on the opening day of the 2016 Auto Expo, on Wednesday.

First introduced at the 2012 edition of the Auto Expo in the form of the YBA concept, the Vitara Brezza is Maruti Suzuki’s first attempt at developing a compact SUV and it has been developed from ground up. The car will be an addition to the Vitara brand that the carmaker sells globally.

As far as styling is concerned, the compact SUV gets the standard brawny yet slick design that is a trend among cars from this segment. The long flat bonnet leads into a gun metal finished grille, on either side of which are nice looking projector type headlamps. The dual tone exterior gives the car a floating roof design. The car gets a peppy appeal from the sides that flaunt star-shaped alloy wheels and the OVRMs.

As for the engine, the sub-4 metre car will come in a diesel form. It will be launched with the renowned 1.3-litre unit sourced from Fiat that cranks up 90PS and 200Nm. The 200 DDIS engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The petrol variant was not announced at the time of the launch but is expected to make an appearance in the future.

Talking about features, the car will have no shortage on that front with guide lamps, projector type headlamp, Daytime Running Lamps, skid plates up front, reversing camera with parking sensors, keyless entry, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers and more. Safety features would include the ABS and EBD airbags as standard across all variants.

The car will be sold via Maruti’s premium sub-brand Nexa, becoming the third car under it after the Baleno and the S-Cross. Launched in the form of at least different variants, the car will lock horns directly with the likes of the Ford Ecosport and the Mahindra TUV at a base price in the region of Rs 6-8 lakh.
