6.2 Earthquake Hits Japan Eastern Coast Strong Aftershocks Expected

An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 hit eastern Japan today, according to the US Geological Survey.Although a few light injuries were reported, there were no immediate reports of any casualties.The strong earthquake struck at a depth of 44 km at around 6.40 am (local time) near Kurayoshi city to the west of Osaka.

At least 80,000 households initially suffered blackout, but the power was later restored.While no tsunami warning has been issued, the local media showed images of some damaged households and properties.

1. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of possible strong aftershocks in the next few days.
