4-day remand for Haldar

Haldar

City crime branch has secured four-day remand of Kartik Haldar, a resident of Raipur in Chhattisgarh, who is accused of killing Amrut Prajapati, Kripal Singh and Akhil Gupta, witnesses in rape cases against Asaram Bapu and his son Narayan Sai. Officials said they will try to establish a link between the killings and also ascertain whether any other person from the ashram run by the father-son duo is involved.

Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and city crime branch had arrested the 35-year-old Haldar for the murders. Kartik’s name had cropped up during the questioning of Basavraj and Sejal Prajapati, a couple from Bengaluru who were caught for attempts on the lives of a few witnesses. Kartik has said that he had attempted to murder four other witnesses as well.

“We have to get information on the others involved in the case. He will also be questioned on the source of the weapons, money and support in all these cases. We are corroborating facts from cases established so far and his statement. Investigation of the names that have cropped up so far is under way,” said a crime branch official.

Officials said that the accused caught previously may also be questioned about the new information gleaned.
