22 packets of heroin worth Rs 110 crore seized at Indo-Pak border

22 packets of heroin seized

The Border Security Force (BSF) seized 22 kg heroin worth Rs 110 crore pushed into the Indian territory by Pakistani smugglers near Bahadurke Border Observation Post (BOP) in the Jalalabad area of Fazilka district.

Eapen PV, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), BSF, said jawans of the 117 Battalion of the BSF on night vigil noticed some activities near the barbed wire fence around 2.15 am on October 26. The jawans started monitoring the movement when smugglers were trying to insert a plastic pipe through the fence. The BSF troops immediately challenged them to stop, following which the Pakistani smugglers opened fire on BSF troops. In self -defense, BSF troops retaliated by firing. The DIG said the smugglers managed to escape taking cover of undulating ground, standing paddy crop and darkness.

The DIG said two smugglers had pushed 22 packets of heroin through a long wide plastic pipe from across the barbed wire fence. It is believed that a smuggler was pushing the packets into the pipe from across the fence and the other received these packets on this side of the fence. After the search, BSF officials recovered 22 packets of heroin from the site along with the plastic pipe.

The DIG claimed that the enhanced vigil of BSF troops had once again thwarted the attempt of smugglers and anti-national elements to smuggle contraband into India. The DIG said with this seizure, the BSF had seized about 280 kg of heroin in Punjab this year so far.
