Yatra.com ad lampooning Kanhaiya Kumar’s JNU speech goes viral

News about JNU protests was all over the internet about a month ago. Just when we thought the whole issue was fading into thin air, Yatra.com, brought it alive in their latest ad.

The commercial features a Kanhaiya Kumar lookalike delivering a passionate speech where he demands for ‘Azadi’ to choose a window seat in the JNSU president’s signature vernacular accent, eventually prompting the fellow travelers in the airport to join in support of Yatra.com’s latest check in app based offering.

Since the time Kanhaiya Kumar shot into popularity after the long drawn JNU row, political parties across the country started vying to take him on board for political campaign. And now Kanhaiya’s catchy ‘Azaadi’ chant is turning into a muse for ad filmmakers.

At the end of the ad, Yatra sends out a message taking a dig at the JNU protest: ‘if you want a window seat, don’t do ‘Narrebaazi (sloganeering) do “Samajhdaari”( the sensible thing) and download the Yatra app.’

On October last year, a similar ad featuring the FTII students protest surfaced, where the iconic multinational soft-drink maker Pepsi made a mockery out of it.

The one-minute TV commercial showed a group of college students in the middle of a hunger strike, while one student gives in and guzzles down a bottle of Pepsi.
