Xiaomi Redmi 3S to launch in India next week
Xiaomi’s next device in India will be the Redmi 3s. Redmi 3S will be another addition in the Redmi series and we’ll have to wait and see what sort of pricing strategy Xiaomi goes with when it launches this phone next week. Whether Xiaomi launches this with different specifications than China variant will also be revealed at the launch, though that has usually been the case with most of its phone launches in India.
Redmi 3S, which has the look and feel of the Redmi Note 3 if you go by the photos based on the company’s China website, might give Xiaomi a renewed command over budget segment in India. Xiaomi has renewed its focus on India in 2016, which remains an important market for Smartphone manufacturers across the world. We’ve seen the company launch Redmi Note 3 in April, followed quickly by the flagship Mi 5, and the phablet Mi Max.
Xiaomi needs to widen the portfolio in India given the importance of the market. Players like Vivo have seen their shipments cross 1 million in India, something only seven brands have managed so far, shows the latest data from Counterpoint research. The data also showed that globally Xiaomi’s shipments have fallen, even though it is still in the list of top ten Smartphone vendors in the world. In India, Xiaomi has been increasing availability of its phones, making them available on more online platforms.
Xiaomi announced Redmi 3s at 699 Yuan (approximately Rs 7,000) in China. The 8.5 mm thick device gets the same 4,100mAh battery seen on the Redmi Note 3. Redmi 3s features a 5-inch 720p HD display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor. Xiaomi Redmi 3s was announced in two variants – 2/16GB and 3/32GB memory option.
The dual-SIM Redmi 3s features a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP secondary camera. Xiaomi Redmi 3s runs MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and was launched in Gold, Grey and Silver colour options.
We’ll have to wait and watch how Xiaomi prices the new Redmi Smartphone and what sorts of specifications are offered for Indian consumers.
