Vijayakanth booked for making derogatory remarks against CM

A derogatory remarks against the state chief minister landed the DMDK president Vijayakanth in trouble after the Thanjavur police registered a case against him and his 58 supporters on Monday.

The opposition party leader condemned the state government for not disbursing the compensation to farmers for crops damaged by flood, during a demonstration held by DMDK at Railadi in Thanjavur on Monday. He also said the government has failed to fulfill the promise of constructing check dams across Kollidam river for Rs 250 crore.

In his tirade against chief minister J Jayalalithaa, Vijayakanth told his party cadres to remove a picture of the AIADMK supremo that was placed near the venue. Responding quickly to his order, the cadres removed the picture of Jayalalithaa from the place.

The news about the incident spread to AIADMK functionaries and cadres in the district. Irked over this, the AIADMK cadres tore banners and flex boards of Vijayakanth in retaliation after the meeting was over and Vijayakanth left the spot.

Thanjavur MLA of AIADMK, M Rengasamy took up the matter to the Thanjavur police and filed a case against Vijayakanth and 58 others for giving derogatory speech, damaging public property and instigating violence. Meanwhile, DMDK’s south district secretary Jayaprakash also lodged a complaint against the AIADMK men for tearing the banners of Vijayakanth.
