Sultan Salman Khan’s first weekend box office collections is a mammoth Rs 181.6 crore

Salman Khan, Anushka Sharma’s Sultan is a hurricane which refuses to stop. The first weekend box office collection of the film is Rs 181.6 crore, according to trade. After a sluggish six months, the BO is ringing with ticket sales and the film has broken way too many records within five days.

The Salman Khan film had made Rs 142.6 crore in four days and with the Sunday box office collection of Rs 39 crore, the film is a breath away from entering the Rs 200 crore club. If all goes well, the film might become Salman’s biggest hit ever, eclipsing the over Rs 300 crore business of Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

The movie has broken many records, some of which belonged to Salman Khan himself. Trade is now looking at how Sultan fares during the week.

The huge collection means that the film had already surpassed Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Rs 129.7 crore) and Happy New Year’s (Rs 108.8 crore) record on the fourth day to become the highest opening weekend grosser, before Sunday even arrived.

Sultan is the biggest opener of 2016, the film has done the highest business of all Salman Khan films and it has broken all records of this year. With its four-day collections, it is already the biggest grosser of the year having eclipsed the lifetime collections of Airlift (Rs 127.8 crore) and Housefull 3 (Rs 107.7 crore).

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh termed Sultan’s run ‘sensational’. “#Sultan continued its HISTORIC run on Sat, smashing records left, right and centre… Rewriting the rules of Hindi film biz… SENSATIONAL! #Sultan is UNSTOPPABLE… Setting new BENCHMARKS… Wed 36.54 cr, Thu 37.32 cr, Fri 31.66 cr, Sat 37.10 cr. Total: Rs 142.62 cr. India biz.”

The film is now quite close to the entire lifetime collections of the biggest grosser of the year so far, The Jungle Book that made Rs 184.5 crore.

The question being asked now is whether Sultan enter Rs 300 crore club. The actor has two films in Rs 200 crore club (Kick and Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo) and one in Rs 300 crore-club (Bajrangi Bhaijaan).
