Serving armyman arrested for alleged links with ISI operatives

An Army personnel from Siliguri was arrested for his alleged links with ISI operative Kafaitullah Khan who was arrested on November 26 over charges of spying in Delhi.

With the arrest of Farid Khan, who is a havildar in the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, three ISI modules have been busted in the past 30 days.

“He was arrested from Siliguri today by the eight-member Crime Branch team which was rushed there,” joint commissioner of police (crime) Ravindra Yadav said.

According to sources, Khan’s name cropped up during Kafaitullah’s interrogation. After interrogators procured the clips of telephonic conversation between Khan and Kafaitullah, a team of Delhi police was dispatched to Siliguri to trace Khan.

Meanwhile, Khan was nabbed by the army and will soon be handed over to Delhi police.

The state police, however, denied having any knowledge of the arrest.

“I have no information regarding the arrest. Neither the army nor the Delhi police approached us,” said Manoj Verma, SP, Siliguri.

On December 1, acting on a tip-off from the Meerut Police, the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata had arrested three suspected ISI agents from west Kolkata. Last month, the STF had arrested ISI agents Akhtar Khan and his brother Jafar Khan, who were supplying information on army installations in Bengal and neighbouring states.
