
Meghalaya police have arrested one person in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 19-year-old girl who had gone missing on Thursday night and was later found dead at a jungle, a police official said today.
Vicky Syiemlieh (24), the prime accused in the case was arrested yesterday evening from his residence at 4 mile in Upper Shillong, Superintendent of Police in-charge East Khasi Hills district, M. Kharkrang said.
The body of the girl, with alleged sexual and physical assault marks on the body, was recovered from a jungle at 4 mile, Upper Shillong, on Thursday night after the family members of the victim were searching for her.
The girl had come out of the house to attend to nature’s call.
“We are still interrogating the accused in connection with the case,” Mr Kharkrang said refusing to divulge further details.
The victim, who was immediately shifted to the Civil hospital, was declared brought dead by medical authorities with bore marks of sexual and physical assault on her body.
