Left Front-Congress deal a ‘rainbow alliance’: Mamata

Continuing her tirade against the Left Front and Congress alliance, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday dubbed the electoral understanding a “rainbow coalition” and said in the upcoming electoral contest her party would surpass all the political rivals.

“CPI(M) , you believe in the ideas of Marx, Lenin, Ho Chi Min and Mao, and now in the Congress. On the other hand Congress is saying Communist-Congress party jindabad ,” the Chief Minister said, addressing a rally at Murshidabad.

Incidentally, leaders of Left Front have often used the term “rainbow alliance” to describe the Trinamool Congress(TMC)’s tie up with the Congress and other forces in 2011 when she came to power.

Addressing the gathering in the Congress stronghold, the TMC chairperson also defended her earlier tie-ups with Congress and said she did so to remove CPI(M) from power. Ms Banerjee said the Congress always had a tacit understanding with the CPI(M) and now it had become public.

Ms Banerjee evoked late Congress leader and former Railway Minister A.B.A. Ghani Khan Chowdhury, who had worked for Malda’s development and said he would not have approved this alliance.

Stating that neither the Congress nor the CPI(M) had the strength to fight the polls on their own, she expressed the hope that their coming together will not make any difference.

Calling on the electorate to vote for her party, the TMC chairperson said that contrary to earlier elections her party “will win lot of seats from north Bengal”.
