History of Raksha Bandhan

It is celebrated on full moon day of month sravana (July/August). This festival celebrates the bond between brother and sister. Brothers swear to protect their sisters from all evils with all their power. On this day sister tie rakhi on wrist of their brother and apply tikka on their forehead. And brothers give any dress and money to sisters to show their gratitude to sisters. Sisters pray for their brothers so they get everything they want in life and become successful in their profession.

History of raksha bandhan dates back to the time of mahabharat. Draupati, wife of pandavas torn a piece of her saari to tie on hand of lord Krishna to stop bleeding. And a bond of brother and sister developed between them and he promised to protect her always.
Brothers who live far from home make time especially to visit their sisters and celebrate this very popular tradition. Even old people get rakhis from their sisters and promise to protect them. Even mothers tie rakhi and their children hands to show love and teach them about family relations that everyone in family is important and equal respect is to be given to all.
North India is part of India where it celebrated with most passion and love. People of north India have respect for traditions and people of all religion celebrate raksha bandan. The sister buys rakhi many days before the festival. Some people like to buy silver or gold bracelet that is used as rakhi and it looks very good on wrist.

I hope this festival brings a lot of happiness in everyone’s life and bond between brother sisters becomes stronger than ever. I wish all of us become more successful in our fields.
