Haryana must focus on composite development across all areas of the State, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said at the Happening Haryana Summit here on Monday.
Stating that Haryana has many advantages such as an agricultural base, manufacturing facilities, emerging service sector economy, and proximity to national capital, Jaitley said: “There are several areas in which Haryana has to race through if not walk through. There are parts of the State which also need to come up for composite development.”
He added: “We must bear in mind that one of the principal reasons why social challenges emerge is because of inequality. Therefore the development which is taking place in some geographical parts of the State has to be effectively addressed in other parts. Therefore it is important that the network of educational institutions is expanded into those parts of the State.”
The Haryana government said in a press release on Monday that it has signed 11 MoUs involving a total investment of ₹18,159 crore with various companies on the first day of the summit. Industrialists have pledged more than ₹4.5 lakh crore of new investments, it added.
“If we lay down the future roadmap of the State, this increased investment in which people are expressing confidence will probably see the light of day. Investment leads to further more,” Jaitley added.
No to agitation
Referring to the recent agitation by Jats demanding reservation, which led to curfew in certain parts of Haryana, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said: “The recent unfortunate events in Haryana should not be repeated. There is nothing wrong in making demands but proper democratic procedure must be followed.”
Smart city
The request by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to make Gurgaon a smart city with complete State funding is under consideration, Naidu added. From Haryana, Faridabad and Karnal have made it to the shortlist.
“Gurgaon must look at stopping encroachments and unauthorised construction if it wants to be a smart city,” the Minister said.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu also informed the gathering that Haryana is the first State to create a joint venture with the Centre to make rail infrastructure.
“We will formalise the special purpose vehicle in a few days,” he said.
He added that a rail coach factory spread across 120 acres in Haryana will become a reality soon.
