Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on October 2 every year to mark the birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
He was born in the year 1869. Gandhi is popularly known as ‘Bapu’ and is also considered as the Father of the Nation for his selfless contribution in India’s freedom struggle.
Throughout his life he lived on the principles of non-violence, truth and honesty. Gandhi was married to Kasturba Gandhi at an early age of 13.
Gandhi returned to India in the year 1916 and continued India’s freedom struggle with his practice of non-violence protest or Satyagraha.
He started raising awareness against the British in Bihar. Just a few months after India’s independence, Gandhi was assassinated by Nathu Ram Godse on January 30, 1948. He was 78.
