With two incidents of protests by right-wing organizations against Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) in the past fortnight, the state police have decided to strengthen the security cover on the sets of his upcoming film ‘Raees’ for which he is shooting in the state. Senior officials said that respective district and city police chiefs have been asked to review the situation and provide adequate security cover at hotels and places of shooting.
The beefed-up security cover was apparent when the ‘Raees’ film crew went to Adalaj stepwell on Monday for shooting. Gandhinagar district police had deployed over 150 personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police, two in spectors and 10 sub-inspectors.
“Security of the actor and the film crew has been reviewed and police deployment has been increased for the future instances as well,” said Shivanand Jha, city police commissioner.
City police officials said that several schedules for the film are taking place in and around Ahmedabad in upcoming days for which permissions have been sought. Officials said that the hotels for actors and the vehicles used by them would also be covered under security plan.
In the past fortnight, SRK has faced protest by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) at Bhuj and Ahmedabad. Early on Sun day morning, bike-borne youths had pelted stones at the hotel where the actor and film crew were staying in which a car used by the crew had got damage. A group of BJP Yuva Morcha had also tried to burn effigy of the actor outside the hotel before which the group was apprehended by Vadaj police on Sunday afternoon.
