An explosion occurred in a building in central Paris on Friday, leaving five people injured, media reports said.
Early visuals showed smoke rising out of a building in the centre of the city.
The explosion in Paris was caused by gas leak, French police confirmed. At least five people have been injured, AFP reported citing police sources.
The building is on the Rue d’Uzes, close to the Paris Stock Exchange building and the headquarters of the AFP news agency.
A report in The Independent quoted a witness as saying that firefighters were present for an hour and a half trying to douse the fire.
As per a report in Mail Online, a witness described the incident as an ‘almighty explosion’ and said that he saw several fire fighters being taken away on stretchers.
Around 140 firefighters were on the scene to help free victims from the building, which contained offices for businesses including lawyers, accountants and telecommunications firms.
