Bajaj Dominar 400 Launching Next Month
Bajaj Auto, the homegrown automaker will launch the much-awaited 400cc motorcycle in the Indian two wheeler market. The company has officially announced that the new 400cc motorcycle has entered into production and the first batch of the bike has already been rolled out from Bajaj Auto’s Chakan based plant. Based on the Pulsar CS400 concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2014, the new 400cc motorcycle is named the Bajaj Dominar 400. The bike will officially launch in the country in mid-December (Before December 15, 2016).
Bajaj is expecting that the new motorcycle will set new benchmarks in the Indian two-wheeler industry. Like the Pulsar series, Bajaj expects the new motorcycle to dominate Indian roads in this segment for the coming decade. Badged as Bajaj’s fastest and most powerful bike, the new motorcycle will rival against the Royal Enfield’s and the Mahindra Mojo. With this bike, the homegrown automaker will introduce an all-new brand – Dominar – that will sit above the Pulsar range. If reports are to be believed, Bajaj is aiming to sell over 10,000 units of the Bajaj Dominar 400 per month.
The Dominar 400 will share most of its components from the Pulsar CS400 concept, which was showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. If reports are to be believed, the bike could be offered in two versions – VS400 and CS400. Based on the perimeter frame, the new Bajaj Dominar 400 will get tank mounted speedo display, LED headlamps and taillamps, muscular fuel tank and stepped saddle seat.
The ‘Dominar’ is a Spanish word which means domination or to rule. With new Dominar, the company is claimed to start a new brand in the Indian two-wheeler market. Bajaj will also launch several new performance bikes under this brand. Likely to be priced in the range of Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 1.8 lakh, the bike will rival against the likes of the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the Mahindra Mojo. With unconventional design, the Dominar will be positioned somewhere between a cruiser and naked streetfighter.

The production of the bike have already commenced at Bajaj’s production facility in Pune, Maharashtra. If reports are to be believed, the company has already started dispatching the bike to dealerships across the nation. Bajaj has officially announced that the bike will be launched in India by mid December (Before December 15). We will update you on this as soon as Bajaj reveals anything on this
Bajaj Dominar 400 Price
Non-ABS variant: Rs 1.50 lakh
ABS Variant: Rs 1.80 lakh
Based on the perimeter frame, the new Dominar 400 will be priced aggressively in the market. The bike is expected to come in two variants – With and without Slipper Clutch. We expect the bike could be priced in the range of Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 1.8 lakh

The Dominar 400 is powered by a 373.27cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that also powers the KTM Duke 390 and RC390. This engine has been de-tuned significantly to offer higher fuel efficiency. The 373.27cc engine is capable of producing 35bhp of power at 8,000rp along with a peak torque of 30Nm. Power will be transmitted to the rear wheels via a 6-speed gearbox.

The same 373.22cc single-cylinder engine when powers the Duke 390 returns a fuel efficiency of 25kmpl. With lower power and torque, the Dominar 400 is expected to be more fuel efficient than its siblings. We expect this cruiser sport to return around 30kmpl of mileage.
Bajaj Dominar 400 Design
The Bajaj Domiar 400 styling seems inspired from the Ducati Diavel. Some of its design cues and features are also shared with the Pulsar 200NS. The bike looks identical to the Pulsar CS400 concept unveiled at Auto Expo 2014. It comes with a raked front, sporty front cowl and large LED headlamps alongwth sweptback visor. The bike is also the company’s first bike to offer LED headlamps. Instead of the clip-on, the Domiar gets flat handlebar. Like the concept, the 400cc motorcycle features LCD display on the fuel tank and digital instrument cluster. Design highlights include gear shift indicator with white backlight, stepped saddle seat, sculpted fuel tank with contours inspired from the Pulsar NS200. At the back, the bike will get Pulsar twin-slash LED setup for the taillamps.
Bajaj Dominar 400 Braking and Suspension
The concept model which was previewed as Pulsar CS400 in Auto Show 2014 was equipped with the USD front forks. However, the production spec model will sport regular telescopic forks upfront and mono-shock setup at the rear. With longer wheelbase and chunky box-section swingarm, the new Dominar 400 will offer improved stability on higher speeds. Instead of the Metzelers available in the KTMs, the 400cc Bajaj bike will ride on MRF RevZ C1 tyres. The cruiser sport gets single-drilled disc brakes along with a single-channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System).
