When you tell your girlfriend that you’re getting back with your ex
Raghav* says, “On April 31 at midnight, I told my girlfriend that I had decided to get back with my ex and that we had been seeing each other for a while behind her back. I even went to the extent to tell her that we had kissed. On hearing this, she threw a fit and started yelling at me. I was totally enjoying it. The prank went on for the entire day and later in the evening, she called me to say that she was breaking up with me. That’s when I got scared and told her it was just an April Fools’ Day prank, but she refused to believe me and broke up. I had only been dating her for two months and it was probably the worst prank to play on your girlfriend.”

You don’t prank the cops because then you get jailed
Dhruv Nagpal, a businessman, says, “When I was in college, I along with a married female friend decided to prank the cops. At a traffic signal my friend rolled down the window and shouted ‘bachao, bachao’. Nothing happened then and there, but as we drove further, we realised that those cops had informed other police officials who were now after us. They stopped us and took us to the police station. We told them it was just a prank, but they lodged a complaint against me.My friend had to call her husband and I called a couple of my friends. They released us only after I paid the fine. Kaafi mehenga pad gaya April Fools’ Day mujhe. Uske baad kabhi kisi ko ullu nahi banaya.”

Prakash Singh, a manager at a city-based firm, says, “A friend of mine had gone to Singapore for her MBA and on April Fools’ Day , I decided to play a prank on her. I installed an app that lets you call any number, anywhere in the world, without disclosing your own number. And every time you call someone through that app, a different number flashes on the receiver’s phone. So, I called her and told her that I am in Singapore and asked her to catch up. I told her to come some place which was 30km from her college. When she got there and couldn’t find me, she tried calling my number. But obviously she couldn’t get through because I had called her through that app. It was when she Facebook messaged me that I told her it was an April Fools’ day prank. But it didn’t turn out to be funny because the place where I had asked her to come was near the Singapore-Indonesia border and my friend wasn’t carrying her passport. It landed her into trouble and she didn’t talk to me for a year.”

Megha Sharma, an entrepreneur, says, “On April Fools’ Day , I decided to play a prank on my mother. I had gone to Boston for an internship. So, on April 1, I called her on Skype and told her that I had gotten married. Of course, there was a lot of hue and cry over this at my home.

But I had no idea that it will become so serious that my parents will fly down to Boston to meet me two days later. My mom even got shagun with her. That was very hilarious, but not for my parents.”

When you fake a robbery and almost go to jail

Siddharth Agarwal, an IT professional, tells us, “On April 1 last year, I called my sister and said that two thieves had broken into my house and that I was really scared. I told her I had locked myself in my room and needed her help. I thought she would come with her husband and family members to my house since she lives five minutes away from it. But instead, she called the cops and within 10 minutes I could hear the siren. The inspector got so frustrated and started shouting at me. He warned me not to do such a foolish thing again or he would put me in jail. Till today my sister and I laugh about what I had done.”
