In the Daman Jain suicide case, the police have been conducting raids at the suspected hideouts of the accused in Pathankot and Himachal Pradesh.
SHO, New Baradri police station, Balwinder Singh, said police teams were on the manhunt and the accused would be nabbed soon.
The victim’s family members, meanwhile, said that the police had been delaying the arrest of the accused Ramesh, as the latter had say in the Police Department. They said Daman would not have committed suicide had the police officials not harassed him.
On June 4, the victim’s family, along with residents, had held a strong protest against the police by putting the body of Daman on Mandi Road, seeking action against police officials for allegedly threatening the trader. The protest ended only after the ASI Mewa Singh was suspended and sent tothe police lines.
The almond merchant had allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in the Mandi Fantanganj area on Thursday. The police had also recovered a suicide note on the basis of which two traders, Ramesh Gupta and Neetu, were booked by the police for reportedly abetting the suicide.
