The Bombay High Court on April 12 granted interim protection from arrest till April 18 to actor-producer Rahul Raj Singh, who has been booked for abetting the suicide of his girlfriend and TV star Pratyusha Banerjee.
Justice Mridula Bhatkar also directed Singh to appear before the Bangurnagar police station in suburban Goregaon in India’s western state of Maharastra from April 13 till April 18 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The judge also directed that in case Singh is arrested, he should be released on a bond of Rs. 30,000.
The court was hearing the anticipatory bail application filed by Singh.
The accused’s lawyer, Abad Ponda, said his client is currently in a hospital, and the copy of the FIR has not been furnished to them. However, the police have filed a report before the court.
The court then perused the report, in which police alleged that Singh, who was staying with Banerjee in a flat in suburban Goregaon, used to assault her. He used to borrow money from her and also withdrew money from her account, which is why she committed suicide, according to the report.
The actress of “Balika Badhu” fame was found hanging at her residence in Goregaon April 1. She was then rushed by Singh to a hospital in Andheri, where she was declared dead.
Singh, who has been booked for abetment of suicide, has been undergoing treatment for alleged depression at a hospital in Borivali since April 3.
