PWF gives up hope of DMDK alliance

DMDK alliance

PWF leaders have given up hope of the Captain aligning with them. Sources said the DMDK’s pre-condition was that Vijayakanth should be projected as the front’s CM candidate. “Such issues should be decided after the election,” said a senior leader, whose party is a constituent in the PWF.

The DMK camp has maintained stoic silence and reacted cautiously to Vijayakanth’s posturing. “We have sent our emissaries to Vijayakanth and conveyed our keenness for an alliance with the DMDK. It is now up to them,” said a senior DMK leader, seeking anonymity. “But, we won’t wait forever. We will begin seat-sharing talks with our other allies (Congress and IUML) soon,” he said.

For DMDK, the success of the rally was in the huge mobilisation of cadres. Anticipation that the actor would make an announcement on the alliance issue had brought hordes of cadres from across the state to Kancheepuram. During the meeting, several resolutions were passed. One criticized the AIADMK government for letting the debt burden on the state to climb up while another faulted chief minister J Jayalalithaa for announcing key decisions on projects as Rule 110 announcements in the assembly. No industrial unit has been set up after global investors meet, it said.
