Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Ram Rahim and stand-up comic Kiku Sharda may have a thing in common.
Seven years ago, the Dera chief was accused by the Sikh clergy of mimicking and aping the tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh during a religious congregation of the sect.
It took seven years for a sessions court to absolve the Dera chief of the charges as parts of Punjab witnessed violent clashes between the Dera followers and Sikhs.
Seven years down the line, with Punjab going to the polls early next year, following a complaint by Dera follower Uday Singh from Kaithal Haryana, popular comedian Kiku Sharda, whose signature drag act earned him followers on the show, Comedy Nights with Kapil, was arrested by the Haryana Police in Mumbai on Wednesday for hurting religious sentiments.
He was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
