Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Pakistan, intelligence agencies have issued an alert regarding terror attacks by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) at various locations in the country during New Year. According to the intelligence reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Parliament building may be on the radar of the terror group.
The Lashkar-e-Taiba might also target nuclear installations and Army headquarters, the intelligence note said. While citing an interception decoded by them, the agencies alerted that around 18 terrorists might have entered the country from across the border to carry out the attacks. “All of them are currently believed to be in India,” the report said.
The alert came a day after the Centre asked all states to be extra vigilant to thwart any attempt by terrorists and subversive elements to disrupt peace, particularly at popular tourist destinations, during the New Year festivities.
Intelligence agencies have issued a country-wide advisory, asking all states to deploy additional forces in crowded places like railway stations, bus terminals, markets and religious places to foil attempts by terrorists to carry out attacks.
The police forces of major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkat a , Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Goa had been asked to be extra vigilant during the upcoming New Year celebrations, said intelligence officials.
