Heavy rains in Nellore as thunderclouds wait outside Chennai

Heavy rains in Nellore

It has started heavily once again early this morning in Nellore in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, just to the North of Chennai, as a huge bank of thunderclouds hung over the region.

The southern flanks of the cloud band are grazing Tirupathi, which is cloudy, as is Chennai, further to the South-Southeast. Both areas may witness thundershowers through the day, forecasts indicated.

Considerable clouds with a shower of thunderstorm is the likely outcome for Chennai today.

Match Prospects

Meanwhile, in Bengaluru, the fifth and last day’s play of the rain-hit second cricket test match between India and South Africa may get affected by rain in the morning.

Only a day’s play has been possible thus far in the game, with rains spilling over from Tamil Nadu interfering with play during the rest of the three days already.

Remnant Clouds

Remnant clouds from a well-marked low-pressure area that had hit North Sri Lanka have drifted out and entered extreme South Peninsular India this morning.

They were seen floating over Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Sivakasi, Madurai and onto adjoining Kerala across the Western Ghats into Kochi and the adjoining Arabian Sea.

Rain or thunderstorms have been forecast at a number of these places during the course of the day.
