The Mumbai police has begun an investigation into allegations that policemen in Bandra police station beat up two Muslim teenagers on Saturday morning and told them to go back to Pakistan.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police for Zone IX Satya Narayan Choudhary has started an inquiry and will talk to both sides, the publication quotes Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Deven Bharti, as saying.
The two teenagers, Asif Sheikh and Danish Sheikh, both aged 19, alleged that they were assaulted by Police Inspector Kedar Pawar and others, who were on night duty, in Bandra police station.
“Pawar also asked them to leave the country while dubbing them as Pakistani agents,” a relative of Asif claimed.
According to Asif and his lawyer, advocate Rahul Dangle, Asif was handcuffed, stripped and beaten with bamboo sticks and a belt by eight police officers.
However, the police claim that Asif was the one to attack the cops after they arrested him for fighting with Danish at Bandra Reclamation.
“When the youths were brought to the police station on Saturday morning, Asif was shouting and behaving aggressively with the police and boasted of his contacts with high-profile and influential Muslim political leaders of the state,” an officer with Bandra police station said.
