Toyota Innova Crysta to Come in 5 Variants, Launching On 3rd May 2016

The much-awaited Toyota Innova Crysta 2016 is all set to launch in India on May 3, 2016. Prior to its launch, the MPV’s variants and engine specifications have been leaked online. According to a fresh report, the all-new Toyota Innova Crysta will be offered in 5 variants – 3 manual and 2 automatic – spread across three trims – GX, VX and ZX. Ditching the existing powertrains, the new Toyota Innova Crysta will come with a new GD diesel engine lineup – a 146.9bhp, 2.4-litre and a 174.5bhp, 2.8-litre.

Transmission options on offer will be a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic (only on the GX and ZX trims). The leaked brochure scan revealed that the higher trim ZX comes equipped with a 7-inch audio system with navigation, automatic climate control, smart entry system with start/stop button, auto-close for tailgate, front seat with easy slide from rear, powered driver’s seat, 1-touch tumble for 2nd and 3rd row seats, airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system), EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and BA (brake assist).

Unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo, the new Toyota Innova Crysta will be launched in the country on 3rd May 2016. Bookings for the 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta have commenced at dealership level. Buyers can book the car by paying a sum of Rs. 50,000, while the deliveries will be commenced from May.

Toyota Innova Crysta Mileage

The new ‘GD’ diesel engine series of the Toyota Innova Crysta will be 10% more fuel efficient than the existing ‘KD’ engines (2.5-litre 2KD-FTV and 3.0-litre 1KD-FTV). We expect the new Toyota Innova 2016 to return an improved fuel efficiency of 10kmpl on city roads and around 14kmpl on highways.

Toyota Innova Crysta Rivals

Upon launch, the Toyota Innova Crysta 2016 will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and Renault Lodgy.

In order to make way for the Toyota Innova 2016, the Japanese carmaker has stopped the production of the current generation Innova at the Bidadi production plant, Karnataka. This also confirms that the carmaker will not sell the MPV’s current model alongside the new Toyota Innova Crysta. Similar to its predecessor, the new Innova Crysta will be manufactured at the same facility.

Toyota Innova Crysta 2016 – Exterior

The new Toyota Innova 2016 is claimed to be lighter, safer and more robust than the current model, thanks to its all-new IMV (International Multi-purpose Vehicle) platform. Referred as the FIRM (Frame with Integrated Rigidity Mechanism), this new platform helps improving the front and side impact structure of the vehicle. It also enhances its handling and ride quality. It’s the same platform that underpins the Hilux pickup truck and the New Fortuner SUV. Unlike the existing model, the new Innova looks more evolved and appealing.

The 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta borrows some design bits from the New Toyota Fortuner, Camry, Highlander crossover and Altis. The front fascia of the car looks stunning with elements like new dual-slats chromed grille, bumper with wider air-dam, integrated LED daytime running lamps, new fog lamps and swept-back head-lamps. While the LED projector headlamps are available only on higher trims. The vehicle’s side profile is accentuated by narrower glass, new prominent wheel arches, and 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 215/55 R17 tubeless front and rear tyres.

The Toyota Innova Crysta borrows several design bits from the New Toyota Fortuner, Camry, Highlander crossover and Altis.

The rear profile, too, has been revised with a new bumper, chrome highlighted license plate enclosure, all-new tail lamps and multi-layered bootlid. The all new Toyota Innova Crysta, with slightly longer overhangs, offers a more generous cabin space than the current model. The Innova Crysta measures 4,735mm in length, 1,830mm in width and 1,795mm in height, thus making it 150m longer, 70mm wider and 35mm taller than the current model. Though, the wheelbase remains unchanged i.e. 2,750mm. Similar to the Indonesia-spec model, the India-bound 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta will come in a total of 6 colour options – Alumina Jade, Attitude Black, Avant Grade Bronze, Dark Gray Mica Metallic, Silver Metallic and Super White.

The new Toyota Innova 2016 will come with both 7-seats (captain seats for middle row) and 8-seats configuration options.

Toyota Innova Crysta 2016 – Interior

The interior of the new Toyota Innova Crysta is more feature-rich and upmarket than the outgoing model. The car gets a dual-tone interior with silver accent along with several comfort and connectivity features such as a 7-inch entertainment system with voice commands and Bluetooth connectivity, rank-and-reach adjustable steering, automatic climate control and ambient LED lighting. The higher trims, additionally, get smart entry with push button start and wood-finishing on panels.

As far as safety features are concerned, the 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta comes equipped with door ajar warning, anti-theft system, rear parking sensors, dual front airbags and driver knee airbag, ABS (anti-lock braking system) and EBD (electronic brake-force distribution). The top-trim ZX will be exclusively offered with curtain airbags, vehicle stability control (VSC) and hill-start assist control (HAC).

The new Toyota Innova model is claimed to be a lot safer and stronger than the outgoing model. The MPV’s new version has achieved 5-star safety rating in ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries), thanks to its advanced safety features such as ESC (electronic stability control), dual front airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system), EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), driver knee and curtain airbags, HAC (hill-assist control) and VSC (vehicle stability control). While the ESC-equipped model achieved 5-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) by scoring 14.10 points out of 16, the other variants received 4-star safety rating. With a total score of 76%, the MPV’s new model is positioned in 4-star category for Child Occupant Protection (COP).

2016 Toyota Innova Crysta – Engine & Transmission

The India-bound 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta will be offered with an all-new 2.4-litre GD VNT Inter-cooler and 2.8-litre GD diesel powertrain options. While the former pushes out a maximum power of 146.9bhp and 343Nm of torque, the latter delivers 174.5bhp and 360Nm. Transmission duties will be performed by a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic (only on the GX & ZX trims). Similar to the current model, the new Innova model will come with both 2WD and 4WD drivetrain system. Toyota claims that the new GD powertrain is 10% more frugal than the existing 2.5-litre D4D ‘KD’ diesel unit.
