BORDER AREAS IN PATHANKOT GET CCTV CAMERAS, SOLAR LIGHTS

The Pathankot Police is strengthening its position in the villages situated at the India-Pakistan Borders by installing scores of CCTV cameras and solar panel lights to get a full view of the night movement.

The strategic Kathlor Bridge, which is the only link between the international border (IB) and mainline India, has been given a new lease of life with the Pathankot Police joining hands with the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) to install solar floodlights which now fully illuminate the overpass at this point.

The police had been receiving intelligence reports that terrorists may make use of the 636-metre long bridge, situated over the Ravi river, to enter the districts of Pathankot and Gurdaspur after crossing the border at Bamial village.

It is learnt that the administration including Pathankot SSP Rakesh Kaushal had taken serious view of the prevailing darkness on the bridge which drove him to install the solar lights, as the bridge is suspected to have been used by the militants who attacked the Pathankot Air Base on January 2.

“We are making best efforts to make this area fool proof from any threat,” said the SSP while talking to Hindustan Times. He claimed that as many as 700 CCTV cameras are already installed in these areas and many more are going to be installed soon.

He added that the tactical headquarter of 4 IRB is going to be stationed at Shahpur Kandi which would not only help in guarding Ranjit Sagar Dam Project but would also be on standby for help. “We have two teams of commandos with modern weaponry now and are fully prepared for any threat,” he said.
